Our mission is to share the truth and compassion of Jesus Christ, support life-affirming choices, and promote healthy relationships by serving and caring for women and families in pregnancy-related circumstances.
Established in 2006 by the Atlanta Association of Southern Baptist Churches (AASBC), now know as the Greater Atlanta Baptist Network (GABN), APRC is a non-profit corporation recognized as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code and the state of Georgia. APRC is also registered with the Secretary of State of Georgia as a charitable organization. APRC's doors opened to clients March 5, 2007 with an initial offering of free and confidential pregnancy testing with pregnancy options consultations as well as an Earn as You Learn Program. Subsequently, we underwent a medical conversion and also began offering limited obstetrical ultrasound in February 2009.
Through ultrasound services we are better able to better serve our clients. An ultrasound provides the parents with a more comprehensive understanding of their pregnancy and gives them an opportunity to make a truly informed choice. It may also be the first occasion for them to bond with their baby.
We remain affiliated with GABN as well as the North American Mission Board; Heartbeat International, an organization that partners with 1,800 Pregnancy Centers on the six inhabited continents; Care Net, a network of 1,100 Pregnancy Resource Centers in North America; National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA); PMC Network, Life Resources of Georgia (LRG), American Pregnancy Association, and the National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA).
The establishment of pregnancy care centers began shortly after the 1973 Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade, which struck down Texas law and granted women the right to choose to have an abortion at any time before viability of the fetus. Announced on the same day was the decision in Doe vs. Bolton, which struck down Georgia abortion laws. The Court ruled that abortion can be performed "in light of all factors" and the referenced factors relate to health. This broad definition to the term "health" removed virtually all barriers to abortion at any time during pregnancy. Since 1973 there have been 55 million reported abortions in the United States alone.
Over the past 42 years, the power of the love of Jesus Christ shared at pregnancy care centers continues to bear fruit in the changed hearts, minds and lives of many thousands of women. Atlanta Pregnancy Resource Centers, Inc. stands in the gap for the unborn and reaches out in genuine love and compassion to a generation that has lost its Biblical foundation for life and truth.
